Atlas Copco GHS 1600 VSD+ – variable-speed screw pump of the GHS 1300–1900 VSD+ series
The GHS 1600 VSD+ achieves a nominal pumping speed of 1590 m³/h (data sheet: maximum displacement 1615 m³/h at 600–5600 rpm at the motor shaft) and an ultimate pressure of 0.35 mbar(a). The frequency range is 20–187 Hz, the average absorbed power at minimal speed 2.7 kW. With the IE5 permanent magnet motor used since April 2025 the nominal motor power is 28 kW (versions with IE3 motor: 30 kW). All three sizes share the canopy of 1420 × 1585 × 1467 mm (L × W × H); according to the brochure the GHS 1600 VSD+ weighs 1133 kg. Gas inlet DN 150, gas outlet DN 100, noise level 65–79 dB(A), oil capacity 40 l. According to the data sheet the Turbo version reaches a maximum displacement of 1811 m³/h.
Only as much power as needed
The variable speed drive (VSD+) with Atlas Copco's own Neos inverter matches the flow to the actual vacuum demand; Atlas Copco quotes energy savings of up to 50 % compared with fixed-speed vacuum technologies. The inlet control valve regulates the pressure together with the speed, the Elektronikon controller (Mk5 Graphic) monitors the pump and integrates it into plant management systems. The patented oil retention system keeps the oil content of the exhaust air below 3 mg/m³.
Applications according to Atlas Copco
Holding, lifting and moving (pick and place, packaging, woodworking), forming and shaping (plastics and white goods, packaging materials, glass, wood/lamination), preserving (meat and poultry packaging, MAP, canning) and humid processes (roof tile and brick manufacture, pipeline drying, salad cooling).
Versions of the GHS 1600 VSD+
Ehrler & Beck offers the GHS 1600 VSD+ in 33 versions, all for 3Ph 380-460 V 50/60 Hz. They differ in cooling (air or water), version (standard, Turbo with higher pumping speed, Humid for processes with a high water vapour content, Turbo Humid and ER with energy recovery – according to the data sheet up to 26.9 kW of recoverable heat via water at 5 mbar), oil (mineral or synthetic) and motor: the 7 article numbers with the Leroy Somer IE5 motor are the versions supplied since April 2025 (pump without UL/CE marking, motor with CE); the 26 article numbers with the Siemens IE3 motor (CN or UL/CE approval) have been phased out by Atlas Copco since 2025 and are only available from stock. The pumps are built at the Qingdao plant.
