Atlas Copco ZRS 500 – booster pump with hydrokinetic drive
The ZRS 500 delivers 505 m³/h at 50 Hz and 605 m³/h at 60 Hz. It is always operated with a downstream backing pump, which overcomes the pressure difference to atmosphere, and is particularly suitable for high volume flows between 0.01 and 50 mbar. Because it works at low pressures, it is less exposed to corrosive process media than the backing pump and correspondingly reliable. Motor 2.2 kW, dimensions 791 × 305 × 265 mm (L × W × H), weight 106 kg, inlet DN 100 ISO-F, outlet DN 63 ISO-F.
Hydrokinetic drive
A fluid drive couples the motor and the pump mechanism and controls the speed automatically (0 to 2900 rpm at 50 Hz). As a result, the ZRS 500 can start at the same time as the backing pump and supports evacuation from the very beginning; the motor is protected against overload. Valves, bypass lines and pressure switches are not needed, and the backing pump can often be smaller than with boosters with a conventional drive.
Applications of the range
Atlas Copco lists vacuum packaging, drying and degassing, vacuum metallurgy, vacuum distillation, thin-film coating, low-density wind tunnels, space simulation, vacuum impregnation and freeze drying.
Variants of the ZRS 500
The ZRS 500 is available from Ehrler & Beck in four variants: 3Ph 200/380 V 50 Hz (8153312163), 3Ph 400 V 50 Hz (8153312155), 3Ph 200/380 V 60 Hz (8153311264), 3Ph 230/460 V 60 Hz (8153311165).
Features of the ZRS range
- Patented hydrokinetic fluid drive between motor and pump: start together with the backing pump, pump-down times up to 50 % shorter according to Atlas Copco
- Automatic overload protection: The drive adjusts the speed itself; no pressure sensors, bypass lines or valves needed
- Oil-free pumping mechanism with proven shaft seal – no oil in the pumping chamber
- Dynamically balanced rotors and precision-ground gears for smooth, low-vibration running
- Robust and corrosion-resistant, low maintenance effort
- Motors to EN 60034, energy-efficient
