The Edwards RV5 is a two-stage, oil-sealed rotary vane vacuum pump with a pumping speed of 5.1 m³/h at 50 Hz and an ultimate pressure of 2 × 10⁻³ mbar. Ehrler & Beck supplies the RV5 in six variants with accessories, spare parts and service.
The Edwards RV5 shares its housing, motor and dimensions with the RV3 but delivers 5.1 m³/h at 50 Hz (6.2 m³/h at 60 Hz). It is the best-selling size of the series for laboratory workstations, rotary evaporators, gel dryers and small coating systems and reaches an ultimate pressure of 2 × 10⁻³ mbar without gas ballast. The two-stage gas ballast handles up to 220 g/h of water vapour, so that humid processes can also be run continuously.
The RV series
The RV series is Edwards' standard series of small oil-sealed rotary vane pumps; more than 400,000 pumps have been built to date. A mode switch sets the pump either to high vacuum mode (best ultimate pressure) or to high throughput mode for continuous inlet pressures up to 500 mbar. The two-stage gas ballast (60 g/h or 220 g/h, on the RV12 290 g/h of water vapour) can be extended with an oil return kit and an oil mist filter to form a closed circuit without oil loss. An oil-controlled inlet valve opens smoothly and closes within 0.4 seconds after switch-off, so that no oil flows back into the system. Single-phase pumps have a wide-range motor with external voltage selector and integrated IEC socket, three-phase pumps are hard-wired; both motor variants meet efficiency class IE2. An O-ring-sealed sight glass, a large oil filler and maintenance with a single hexagon key keep the service effort low.

Variants of the Edwards RV5
The RV5 is available from Ehrler & Beck in six variants (part numbers A65301903, A65301904, A65301905, A65301906, A65301907, A65301925): four single-phase versions with a switchable wide-range motor (115/230 V or 100/200 V, factory-set to the voltage stated) and two three-phase versions for 200-230 V or 380-460 V, each 50/60 Hz. Single-phase pumps are connected via an IEC socket (mains cable as an accessory), three-phase pumps are hard-wired.
