The Busch MERLIN ME 3048 D is a dry-running, air-cooled claw pressure/vacuum pump for the printing industry with two vacuum stages and one pressure stage, an operating air volume of 80 m³/h (version with 5.5 kW: 140 m³/h) and an operating vacuum of 0.6 bar. Busch MERLIN ME 3048 D – outdated model
The MERLIN ME 3048 D is no longer part of the current Busch range; Busch names no successor in its current documents. The MERLIN is a non-contacting claw pump that generates vacuum and pressure in separate, oil-free pumping chambers. Busch offered it as a pressure/vacuum pump for the printing industry and emphasised its tolerance of paper dust. The pump is air-cooled; cooling coils cool the blast air. According to the Busch data sheet, the ME 3048 D was available in two versions: with 3 kW (50 Hz) or 3.6 kW (60 Hz) and an operating air volume of 80 m³/h, and with 5.5 kW and 140 m³/h. The operating vacuum is 0.6 bar below atmospheric pressure in the first stage and 0.5 bar in the second stage, which corresponds to about 400 mbar and 500 mbar absolute; the operating pressure is 0.7 bar, and 0.8 bar for the version with 5.5 kW. The rated motor speed is 1500 min⁻¹ at 50 Hz and 1800 min⁻¹ at 60 Hz, and 2400 min⁻¹ for the version with 5.5 kW. The sound pressure level (DIN 45635) is 74 dB(A) at 50 Hz and 77 dB(A) at 60 Hz, and 82 dB(A) for the version with 5.5 kW. The Busch leaflet for North America (07/2011) gives a weight of approx. 397 lbs (about 180 kg) and approx. 418 lbs (about 190 kg). According to the dimensional drawing, the pump is 1125 mm long, 406 mm wide and 360 mm high.
