The Busch MERLIN ME 2048 D is a dry-running, air-cooled claw pressure/vacuum pump for the printing industry with an operating air volume of 80 m³/h (140 m³/h with gear motor) and an operating vacuum of 0.6 bar. It supplies vacuum and pressure at the same time from separate, oil-free pumping chambers. The model is no longer part of the current Busch range. Busch MERLIN ME 2048 D – outdated model
The MERLIN ME 2048 D is no longer part of the current Busch range; Busch names no successor in its current documents. The MERLIN is a non-contacting claw pump that generates vacuum and pressure in separate, oil-free pumping chambers. Busch offered it as a pressure/vacuum pump for the printing industry and emphasised its tolerance of paper dust. The pump is air-cooled; cooling coils cool the blast air. According to the Busch data sheet, the ME 2048 D was available in three versions: with 2.2 kW (50 Hz) or 2.6 kW (60 Hz) and 0.7 bar operating pressure, with 3 kW or 3.6 kW and 1 bar operating pressure, and with gear motor, 4 kW and 0.7 bar operating pressure. The operating air volume is 80 m³/h, and 140 m³/h with gear motor; the operating vacuum of all versions is 0.6 bar below atmospheric pressure, which corresponds to about 400 mbar absolute. The rated motor speed is 1500 min⁻¹ at 50 Hz and 1800 min⁻¹ at 60 Hz, and 2400 min⁻¹ with gear motor. The sound pressure level (DIN 45635) is 73 dB(A) at 50 Hz and 76 dB(A) at 60 Hz, and 80 dB(A) with gear motor. The Busch leaflet for North America (07/2011) gives a weight of approx. 328 lbs (about 149 kg), and approx. 363 lbs (about 165 kg) with gear motor. According to the dimensional drawing, the pump is 961 mm long, and 1074 mm with gear motor.
